Interview with Virginia of ‘Whatveewore’

whatveewore_theluxaholic

Today we’re interviewing Virginia from her ‘whatveewore‘ blog!  She is a Sydney-based lawyer and juggles being a mum, a demanding career and of course, being a fashion blogger!  How does she do it?  Lets interview her to find out!

What Inspired you to become a fashion blogger?

I’ve always loved fashion and I love reading fashion blogs and magazines for inspiration.  After almost a year of Instagram-only posting, I started whatveewore.com at the end of 2018 as I wanted a chance to say something that might last just a bit longer than those few seconds of a scrolled feed and to curate a space where I could share my workwear looks and styling tips as well as insights about things that interested me, like designer bags and shoes.

How would you describe your style?

My personal style centres around the classics and I always gravitate towards the sophisticated and minimal. Recently I’ve been embracing a colour palette of neutral tones – there’s so much versatility through their simplicity!

What are your favourite go to looks?

For work, I love a navy power suit to spark a productive day in the office.  For a work-from-home day, I’ve been heavily reliant on knits and relaxed trousers.  For off-duty, it’s hard to go past the classic jeans & t-shirt with a pair of pointy flats or ankle boots and a blazer or coat, depending on the weather.

What are your favourite go-to brands for fashion and accessories?

For workwear, I turn to Scanlan Theodore, Reiss and Uniqlo.  For off-duty, I’m a huge fan of Everlane, Nobody Denim and Marks & Spencer.  For outerwear, The Curated and Reiss make fantastic coats. And, perhaps most importantly, my favourite designer bags are by Celine.

I tend to mix both high street and designer and finish off my looks with one of my beloved handbags from my collection.

We can see you are a fan of Celine, can you tell us more about your bag collection?

I’m such a Philo-era Celine devotee – the styles are beautifully simple and minimal.  Ever since I bought my first Celine bag all those years ago, I’ve had a hard time finding another brand I like enough to spend my money on!  I’ve got 5 in my collection at the moment – the Belt Bag, Cabas Tote, Trio Bag, Luggage Tote and Seau Sangle Bag.  The Sangle is my latest bag that I nabbed pre-loved!

Who Is your style muse / Icon?

I’m constantly pinning and browsing on Pinterest for style inspiration but for classic style, I love Victoria Beckham, Miroslava Duma and Olivia Palermo and for minimal looks I turn to Brittany Bathgate and Emma Hill – they do elevated basics so well.

Has COVID affected your sense of style, given more people are working from home?

Definitely! I’ve embraced basics like never before!  I admit, I found it pretty amusing to “tele-commute” to the office in my fleece track pants but the novelty quickly wore off and I now make the effort to get dressed every morning.  It makes a world of difference to my mindset.

How do you juggle being a mum of young boys with a demanding career?

It’s a constant battle but I’ve learnt to go easy on myself.  You can’t control everything and things don’t always run perfectly to plan.  GIving priority to what’s important will always inform how your day will play out.  Unless I’ve got a deadline or something urgent to get out, I’ll put a pause on work at 5pm to pick up the kids from daycare and school and get dinner on for the family.  It also means I’m much more efficient during business hours!

Before the pandemic hit, I was taking advantage of flexible work and I had a set day each week that I worked from home.  I also used to travel quite a bit for work but video calls has been put to good use to reduce that need and ensures I’m home more with the kids. It’s a constant balancing act but I couldn’t do it all without the support of my husband.

Describe a typical day In your life?

So, the first people that wake up in our house are very young, and noisy, around 6:30am – 7:30am.  Once our 3 year old is up, he wakes up his brothers and they start partying!

At the moment, my husband and I are living the work-from-home life and I share a glimpse of what a typical day looks like for us in this blog post here, aptly titled “A Day In The Life of Me.”

Lastly, In three words how would you describe your life?

Boys! Boys! Boys! (I’ve got 4 boys, what did you expect?!)
